Job Summary:
A Pastry Chef or Cake Specialist is responsible for preparing, baking, and decorating cakes, pastries, and other desserts. They ensure high-quality presentation, taste, and consistency while maintaining hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and bake cakes, pastries, and desserts according to recipes
Design and decorate cakes for special occasions (weddings, birthdays, events)
Create new dessert recipes and improve existing ones
Measure and mix ingredients accurately
Monitor baking times and temperatures
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen/workstation
Manage inventory of baking supplies and ingredients
Ensure food safety and hygiene standards are followed
Handle customer requests for customized cakes
Required Skills:
Knowledge of baking techniques and ingredients
Creativity and artistic skills for cake decoration
Attention to detail
Time management and ability to work under pressure
Basic math skills for measurements and costing
Teamwork and communication skills
Qualifications:
Diploma or certification in Baking & Pastry Arts (preferred)
Experience in a bakery, hotel, or pastry kitchen (1–3 years typical)
On-the-job training may be accepted
Work Environment:
Bakeries, hotels, restaurants, catering companies, or home-based businesses
Early morning or late-night shifts may be required
Standing for long periods and working in a fast-paced environment
