Job Summary:
The Cook / Kitchen Helper is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, hygienic, and timely meals to patients and staff as per dietary guidelines. The role ensures food quality, cleanliness, and compliance with safety standards in a healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Service
· Prepare meals according to planned menus and dietary instructions.
· Follow special diet requirements (low salt, diabetic diet, soft diet, etc.).
· Ensure food is prepared in a hygienic and safe manner.
· Assist in serving meals to patients and staff.
· Maintain portion control as instructed.
Kitchen Hygiene & Safety
· Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, utensils, and storage areas.
· Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines.
· Ensure proper storage of raw materials and cooked food.
· Dispose of waste as per hygiene standards.
· Comply with hospital infection control protocols.
Inventory & Support
· Assist in checking stock of groceries and supplies.
· Inform supervisor about shortages or spoilage.
· Support kitchen team during bulk cooking or special events.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
· Basic knowledge of cooking and food handling.
· Experience in hospital/hostel/canteen cooking preferred.
· Understanding of hygiene and cleanliness standards.
· Ability to work in shifts.
· Physically fit and able to stand for long hours.
Preferred Qualities:
· Responsible and disciplined.
· Team-oriented attitude.
· Patience and understanding while working in a healthcare environment.
