Continental Cook

Job Summary:

The Commis 1 – Continental & Chinese Cuisine is responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality dishes in both Chinese and Continental sections. The role involves supporting the senior chefs with food preparation, maintaining kitchen hygiene, and ensuring consistency in taste and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

🧑‍🍳 General Duties:

• Assist in the preparation and cooking of food in both the Chinese and Continental sections.

• Ensure mise-en-place is completed ahead of service time.

• Follow standard recipes and presentation standards.

• Maintain high levels of hygiene and cleanliness in all kitchen areas.

• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients.

• Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and equipment.

🥢 Chinese Cuisine Responsibilities:

• Prepare wok-based dishes, stir-fry items, steamed dishes, and basic Chinese sauces.

• Assist in the preparation of dim sum, noodles, and other traditional Chinese items.

• Use Chinese cooking techniques such as sautéing, steaming, deep-frying, etc.

🍝 Continental Cuisine Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of pastas, grills, roasts, salads, soups, and sauces.

• Prepare Western-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner items.

• Ensure consistency in taste and portion control for all continental dishes.

Requirements:

• Diploma or Certification in Culinary Arts or equivalent.

• 1–2 years of experience in a multi-cuisine kitchen or specialized experience in both Continental and Chinese cuisines.

• Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards.

• Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a high-volume environment.

• Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.

• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods.

• Must be able to lift moderate weight (up to 20kg).

• Work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
