A Commis 1 (or First Commis Chef) is a junior-level, skilled role responsible for assisting senior chefs (Chef de Partie) with daily culinary operations, preparation, and cooking.
Key Responsibilities
Mise-en-place: Preparing ingredients by chopping, washing, peeling, and seasoning vegetables, fruits, and meats.
Cooking & Plating: Executing recipes, cooking basic dishes, and plating food according to restaurant standards.
Hygiene & Safety: Maintaining strict sanitation standards, cleaning workstations, and following food safety regulations.
Inventory: Monitoring stock levels, receiving deliveries, and storing items properly.
Team Support: Assisting the station chef during service in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
Experience: Generally 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
Education: Culinary school diploma or training preferred.
Skills: Strong knife skills, basic cooking techniques, and ability to work under pressure.
