Job Description

A Carpenter Woodwork Machine Operator sets up, programs, and operates machinery (CNC or manual) to cut, shape, and finish wood products, such as furniture or cabinetry. They ensure high-precision production by reading blueprints, maintaining equipment, inspecting materials for defects, and adhering to strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation: Set up and operate machinery including saws, routers, drill presses, lathes, shapers, and sanders to produce wooden parts.
Production Setup: Review blueprints, work orders, or drawings to determine material requirements and machine settings.
Quality Control: Examine finished workpieces for defects, smoothness, dimensions, and conformity to specifications using calipers, rules, or gauges.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machines, such as cleaning, oiling, and replacing worn blades or drill bits.
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including wearing protective equipment (masks, goggles) to manage dust and noise.
Material Prep: Inspect, measure, and mark raw woodstock for cutting and processing.

Requirements & Skills

Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate and troubleshoot computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines and industrial software.
Physical Stamina: Capability to lift, move, and handle large, heavy wood pieces throughout a shift.
Precision and Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate cuts and high-quality finishes.
Experience: Often requires a high school diploma, plus on-the-job training or a technical certification in woodworking or carpentry.

Working Conditions
