Position - Merchandiser Trainee
Role - 1. Communication & Coordination
A merchandiser acts as the primary point of contact. This involves:
Internal Communication: Liaising with various in-house departments like design, sampling, production, quality assurance, and logistics to ensure everyone is aligned on the order details and deadlines.
Sourcing Raw Materials: Finding and selecting appropriate suppliers for fabrics, trims (like buttons, zippers, and labels), and other accessories.
Sampling: Managing the creation and approval of various samples, such as proto samples, fit samples, and pre-production samples, to get final sign-off from the buyer.
Costing and Negotiation: Calculating the total cost of production and negotiating prices with both the buyer and the suppliers to ensure profitability.
3. Production Planning & Management
Once an order is confirmed, the merchandiser oversees its execution.
Time & Action (T&A) Plan: Creating a detailed schedule or "critical path" that outlines every step of the production process, from fabric booking to final shipment, to ensure deadlines are met.
Monitoring Production: Following up with the production floor to track progress, identify potential bottlenecks, and solve problems that could cause delays.
Quality Control: Working with the quality assurance team to ensure the garments meet the buyer's specifications and pass all necessary inspections.
4. Documentation & Logistics
The final stage involves the administrative and logistical tasks to get the product out the door.
Preparing Order Sheets: Creating internal and external purchase orders and other documentation with all the necessary details.
Shipping & Banking: Coordinating with the shipping and documentation departments to ensure products are packed correctly, shipped on time, and all financial and legal paperwork is in order.
