Job Summary

The Horticulturist is responsible for planning, cultivating, maintaining, and improving gardens, landscapes, nurseries, and medicinal/herbal plantations. The role involves ensuring healthy plant growth, implementing sustainable horticultural practices, managing pest and disease control, and supervising horticultural staff to achieve high-quality plant production.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and maintain ornamental gardens, herbal plantations, nurseries, and green landscapes.

• Select suitable plants, trees, herbs, and flowers based on climate, soil, and project requirements.

• Monitor plant health and implement preventive measures against pests, diseases, and weeds.

• Develop irrigation, fertilization, and soil management plans for optimum plant growth.

• Supervise planting, pruning, propagation, harvesting, and maintenance activities.

• Conduct regular inspections to ensure proper growth and maintenance of plants.

• Maintain records of plantation activities, fertilizer usage, pesticide applications, and harvest yields.

• Coordinate with procurement for seeds, saplings, fertilizers, pesticides, and gardening equipment.

• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and agricultural regulations.

• Train and supervise gardeners, nursery workers, and field staff.

• Prepare reports on plantation performance and recommend improvements.

• Promote sustainable and eco-friendly horticultural practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Botany, or a related field.

• Master's Degree in Horticulture (Preferred).

Experience

• 2–5 years of experience in horticulture, landscaping, nursery management, or medicinal plant cultivation.

• Experience in herbal or medicinal plantations is an added advantage.
