Senior Accountant

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.

• Monitor budgets, analyze variances, and prepare financial forecasts.

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB standards, and relevant regulatory and environmental reporting requirements.

• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies.

• Maintain fixed asset records and oversee depreciation schedules.

• Coordinate with external auditors and support audit processes.

• Assist in rate studies, cost analysis, and financial modeling to support capital planning and operational efficiency.

• Work with plant operations and engineering departments to track project costs and ensure budget alignment.

• Develop and implement internal controls and accounting procedures.

• Supervise junior accounting staff or clerks as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).

• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience; experience in utilities, public sector, or environmental services is a plus.

• Strong understanding of accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.

• Familiarity with municipal or utility accounting regulations is advantageous.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to communicate complex financial data clearly and concisely.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with public sector budgeting and grant reporting.

• Knowledge of environmental and utility compliance standards.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Team leadership and cross-departmental collaboration experience.
