Job Description

Secured Lending Underwriter About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Secured Lending Underwriter. In this role, you will: Participate in the partnership with the Underwriting team on all aspects of new business transaction process Perform financial analysis, calculate financial covenants, and prepare financing memorandum within Secured Lending Underwriting Review basic issues, policies, or procedures where answers can quickly be obtained related to low to medium risk and deliverables Receive direction from Secured Lending Underwriting supervisor and exercise independent judgement while developing understanding of function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals Required Qualifications: 2+ years of Secured Lending Underwriting experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education Key Responsibilities Credit Analysis & Underwriting Support Participate in underwriting and ongoing portfolio management of secured lending and commercial banking relationships. Perform moderately complex financial analysis, including spreading financial statements, projections, and pro‑forma financials. Evaluate borrower creditworthiness, repayment capacity, leverage, cash flow sustainability, and covenant compliance. Support credit rating assessments and recommend risk mitigation strategies in alignment with policy guidelines. Conduct borrower and industry analysis to identify internal and external risk factors. Monitor assigned portfolios and support covenant calculations, yield analysis, and trend analysis. Identify early warning signals and emerging risks and escalate concerns appropriately. Analyze and resolve moderately complex credit or portfolio issues under general supervision. Ensure timely and accurate completion of renewals, amendments, annual reviews, and ongoing monitoring requirements. Identify potential policy exceptions, process gaps, or control issues and escalate through appropriate channels. Support project deliverables and functional initiatives as assigned. Provide informal guidance or review support to less experienced team members, as needed. Desired Qualifications MBA (Finance – mandatory), CFA, or Chartered Accountant qualification. Working knowledge of commercial credit products and the end‑to‑end loan lifecycle. Experience with financial spreading, ratio analysis, cash flow analysis, trend analysis, and pro‑forma modeling. Working knowledge of GAAP / IFRS accounting standards. Ability to evaluate qualitative and quantitative risk factors and distinguish critical versus non‑critical information. Experience preparing internal credit or portfolio memorandums under supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables within deadlines. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑based environment. Flexibility to support business needs, timelines, and shift requirements. AI Skills & Competencies In alignment with Wells Fargo’s Responsible AI framework, this role requires foundational AI literacy, including: Ability to leverage approved AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Tachyon, Agentspace) for drafting, summarization, and analysis with appropriate human oversight. Ability to interpret and validate AI‑generated outputs before applying them to credit decisions. Awareness of ethical considerations, data privacy, and compliance requirements related to AI usage.
