Core duties and responsibilities
Financial record-keeping:
Documenting all financial transactions and organizing financial records.
Financial reporting:
Preparing and presenting financial statements, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Tax and compliance:
Calculating taxes, preparing and filing tax returns, and ensuring the company complies with all financial regulations and accounting standards.
Auditing and analysis:
Conducting internal and external audits, analyzing financial data to identify trends or variances, and reviewing financial documents for discrepancies.
Budgeting and forecasting:
Creating and monitoring budgets, performing financial forecasts, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction and profit enhancement.
Reconciliation:
Reconciling financial discrepancies by collecting and studying account information and reconciling statements each month.
Additional responsibilities
Accounts management: Handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, and sometimes payroll.
Risk assessment: Identifying and assessing financial risks.
Management consultation: Advising management on financial matters, such as cost reduction and profit maximization.
Technology adoption: Utilizing accounting software and, increasingly, AI and automation to improve efficiency.
Key skills and qualifications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel functions
High level of organization and attention to detail
Knowledge of current accounting policies, regulations, and trends
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Relevant certification or degree in accounting
