Senior Accountant – Job Description
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records through accurate and timely financial reporting. This role involves overseeing general accounting operations, analyzing financial data, preparing reports, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies. The Senior Accountant also provides guidance to junior accounting staff and works closely with management to support strategic financial planning.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accounts are reconciled on a regular basis.
Perform month-end and year-end closing processes.
Ensure accuracy of journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
Budgeting & Analysis
Assist in developing budgets and forecasts.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and recommend actions.
Prepare management reports as required.
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS and internal financial policies.
Support internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules and documentation.
Assist with tax filings and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
Accounts Management
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll entries.
Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and account reconciliations.
Review and approve financial transactions and expense reports.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities for improving accounting systems, procedures, and workflows.
Support implementation of new accounting tools or ERP systems.
Team Collaboration
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accountants.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including finance, operations, and management.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
3–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
Experience with financial reporting and general ledger functions.
Technical Skills
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
