Key Responsibilities
Trust Accounting: Maintain and reconcile client trust accounts separately from operating accounts to ensure client funds never mix with firm revenue.
Billing and Collections: Oversee time entry accuracy, generate client invoices, process payments, and track aged receivables.
Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage day-to-day cash flow, pay vendors, and record incoming client retainers.
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, balance sheets, and profit-and-loss reports.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all trust transactions adhere to state bar rules and tax regulations. [1, 2, 3]
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA is a strong plus).
Experience: Minimum of 2 to 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services setting.
Software Skills: Proficiency in legal billing and accounting programs such as QuickBooks, Clio, LawPay, or TimeSolv, alongside advanced Excel.
Soft Skills: High level of integrity for handling confidential data, strong analytical thinking, and clear communication
