Job Description:
We are seeking a vigilant and proactive Fiber Optic Cable Patroller to join our operations team in Chennai. The primary responsibility of this role is to safeguard our critical fiber optic cable infrastructure by conducting regular inspections, identifying potential risks, and ensuring the prompt reporting of any issues to minimize network disruptions. The ideal candidate will be a highly observant individual with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Route Surveillance: Conduct systematic patrols along designated optical fiber cable routes (both aerial and underground) to visually inspect for any signs of damage, encroachment, or potential threats.
Damage Prevention: Actively monitor construction activities, excavation work, and other ground-disturbing operations in the vicinity of fiber optic cables to prevent accidental damage.
Risk Identification & Reporting: Promptly identify and report any anomalies, such as exposed cables, disturbed ground, missing or damaged warning markers, unauthorized digging, or any other activity that could compromise the fiber network.
Incident Documentation: Accurately document all observations, incidents, and potential risks, including precise location details, photographs, and detailed descriptions, using designated reporting tools (e.g., mobile application, standardized forms).
Coordination & Communication: Effectively communicate with the fiber team, supervisor, and other relevant stakeholders (e.g., local authorities, construction crews) regarding ongoing activities or identified risks near the cable infrastructure.
Minor Corrective Actions: Where authorized and trained, undertake minor, non-technical actions such as placing warning signs, re-marking cable routes, or temporarily securing exposed cables to mitigate immediate risks.
Adherence to Safety Standards: Strictly follow all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), especially when working near roadways, construction zones, or in hazardous environments.
Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs of patrol activities, reported incidents, and actions taken for future reference and analysis.
Skills and Qualifications:
Educational Qualification: High school (10th Grade) pass or higher. ITI/Diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications) is an advantage.
Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of optical fiber cables, their function, and common causes of damage.
Observational Skills: Keen eye for detail and the ability to identify subtle signs of potential issues or damage.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise reporting.
Physical Fitness: Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions, including walking, standing, and potentially light lifting.
Driving: Valid two-wheeler or four-wheeler driving license (as required by route) and ability to navigate efficiently.
Problem-Solving: Ability to assess situations quickly and identify potential risks.
Responsibility & Reliability: Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Safety Conscious: A paramount commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
Basic Computer/Mobile Skills: Familiarity with using mobile applications for reporting and navigation (GPS).
Salary: 16,000-18,000
