The Academic Counselor provides support, guidance, and resources to students to help them achieve their academic, personal, and career goals. This role involves academic advising, course planning, identifying at-risk students, and coordinating with faculty and support services to promote student success and retention.
Provide one-on-one academic advising to students regarding course selection, degree requirements, and academic planning.
Monitor student academic progress and identify students in need of academic support or intervention.
Develop academic success plans for students at risk of probation, dismissal, or underperformance.
Guide students through the process of transferring credits, changing majors, or exploring career and academic pathways.
Coordinate with faculty, tutors, and other support staff to ensure students receive comprehensive academic support.
Conduct workshops and seminars on study skills, time management, and academic planning.
Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with institutional and legal guidelines (e.g., FERPA).
Stay informed about curriculum changes, institutional policies, and academic deadlines.
Participate in orientation programs and outreach activities to support new and continuing students.
Refer students to appropriate services, including mental health counseling, financial aid, and career development.
