Ä Adherence to Nursing Clinical standards - Renders professional bedside nursing care.
- Prepares nursing care plans for assigned patients with an understanding of individualizing treatment plans, patient compliance, acceptability and comfort.
- Attends call bell within 2 minutes.
- Functions as SPOC – for all non-medical services, to ensure speedy service.
- Conducts Room orientation competently for all admissions.
- Completes the Nursing Assessment Guide within 30 minutes of patient’s admission.
- Reviews the doctor’s notes and drug chart on admission and implements it.
- Checks and records vital signs legibly and promptly.
- Accompanies Consultants on rounds; carries out orders completely.
- Ensures that all investigations are conducted as advised by the doctor, reports available on time for doctor’s perusal and further advice.
- Assist the doctors in special procedures, dressings and rounds.
For following procedures , ensures procedure trolleys are correctly set:
Ø PV Examination
Ø Pap Smear
Ø Blood sampling
- Coordinates procurement of blood and blood products for transfusion. Any reactions must be reported to treating consultant, IC & NS immediately.
- Accompanies patient for special procedures and investigations.
- Prepares the patient for labor room and delivery.
- Completes the transfer formalities as per the In-house Transfer Policy.
- Completes the preoperative checklist before sending the patient to operation theatre.
- The Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse has specific duties in providing care for mothers and their babies during pregnancy - helps expectant parents prepare for labor and delivery.
Offers health education and counseling in:
Ø Breastfeeding
Ø Additional feeding
Ø Maternal diet
Ø Newborn care
Ø Parenting
Ø Ante natal & postnatal care
Ø Effect of medication
- To have knowledge of Cardio Toco Graph monitoring.
- Understand the APGAR scoring performed.
- Able to manage pre and postoperative care of Lower Segment Cesarean Section, hysterectomy, post-partum hemorrhage and obstetric emergencies.
- Knowledge and capability to handle I.V. fluid and drug calculation.
- Assists normal deliveries and have thorough knowledge on gestational age assessment, and the special problems of the premature, post-mature, small for gestational age, large for gestational age neonates.
- Prepares additional feed with strict aseptic technique as per the doctor’s written instruction.
- Handles Baby bath competently and with utmost care.
- Does not take verbal orders from Doctors except in emergency, to be followed by a written order before end of shift.
- Does not take verbal orders for diet unless urgent; to be followed up with written order.
- Maintains medical and nursing records of patients as per institutional requirement.
- Raises requisitions on HIS for pharmacy indents, checks on receipt and stocks it in the patient’s bedside locker.
- Administers medications and therapies on time according to ‘Drug Administration Policy.’
- Administers high risk medicines, counter checked by a second nurse for the ‘10 Medication Rights’ and complete documentation policy.
- Aware and implement policies with respect to ‘Medications brought by patient’ and ‘self-administration by patients.’
- Observes the patient to ensure safe medication / adverse reactions.
- Errors in medication, nursing intervention, ADR to be brought immediately to the notice of the In-Charge, Nursing Superintendent and Consultant. The respective form to be filled.
- Aware of NABH & NE standards and implement the same.
- Maintains personal, patients and environmental hygiene.
- Aware and implement protocols of hand washing, infection control, medication, narcotic policy, personal valuables, etc.
- Knowledgably handles all gadgets used in patient care.
- Handles waste segregation and disposal as per the policy.
- Strictly follows all safety measures involved in patient care and self-protection.
- Aware of patient rights and preserve the same.
- Ensures patients are comfortable and implements safety measures for vulnerable patients as per policy.
- Aware of Barrier Nursing, Patient and Self Safety.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information – medical / personal; avoids violation of confidentiality - no discussion of patient identifiable information in public areas.
- Responsible for obtaining signature from either of the parents, at the time of discharge, confirming they have received their child.
- Always follows universal precautions as per the unit protocol.
Ä Fulfilling the Service Vision & Inter-department Coordination:
- Is well-groomed as per standard; maintains discipline and decorum.
- Responsible for the implementation of the Service Vision – ensures personalized care while delivering service.
- Manages the floor services, coordinating with support departments to ensure customers are comfortable and services are as per standard.
- Maintains a cordial interpersonal relationship with all colleagues.
- Co-ordinates with IP coordinator, Billing team and related departments regarding timely admissions, discharges and billing activities of the patients.
- Coordinates and works closely with LDR, OT, NICU, Pharmacy & Lab.
