
Role Overview:
The OT Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and sterile functioning of the Operation Theatre, especially in ophthalmic procedures. The position involves pre-operative preparation, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative care in adherence with nursing and surgical protocols specific to eye care.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare the operation theatre for surgeries including arrangement of surgical instruments, consumables, and ophthalmic equipment (phaco machine, microscope, etc.)
· Assist ophthalmic surgeons during procedures like cataract, glaucoma, retinal, squint, and corneal surgeries.
· Adhere strictly to aseptic techniques and infection control practices.
· Perform surgical scrubbing and support instrument sterilization (autoclaving, ETO, etc.)
· Administer pre- and post-operative care to patients including vital monitoring and documentation.
· Maintain and update patient surgical records, OT checklists, and incident logs.
· Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are cleaned, sterilized, and stored appropriately after every procedure.
· Assist in handling and disposal of biomedical waste as per NABH guidelines.
· Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding pre/post-operative care instructions.
· Coordinate with OT technicians, housekeeping staff, and other support teams for efficient OT operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
· GNM or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution
· Valid Nursing Council registration (Preferred)
· Minimum 1–3 years of experience in an OT setting; Eye care/ophthalmic surgery experience preferred
· Trained in basic and advanced life support (BLS/ACLS) will be an advantage
