Job Title: Mechanic – Ashok Leyland Buses

Job Purpose:
To ensure the efficient maintenance, repair, and servicing of Ashok Leyland buses in a public transport fleet, minimizing downtime and ensuring roadworthiness in compliance with safety, manufacturer, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance:
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on Ashok Leyland buses including engine, transmission, braking system, air suspension, HVAC, and electricals.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
Conduct health checks of BS-IV and BS-VI emission-compliant engines and related systems (AdBlue, DPF, EGR).
Carry out clutch overhauling, engine tuning, gearbox repairs, steering adjustments, and axle servicing as per OEM guidelines.
2. Diagnostic & Troubleshooting:
Use diagnostic tools such as Ashok Leyland’s i-ALERT, E-Diagnostics tools, and other scan tools to identify issues.
Interpret fault codes and provide quick rectification to avoid repeat complaints.
Assist junior mechanics in complex fault finding and repairs.
3. Team Supervision and Skill Transfer:
Guide and supervise junior mechanics and helpers during repair work.
Ensure job cards are completed accurately and timely.
Conduct on-the-job training sessions for junior staff on new technologies and maintenance practices.
4. Recordkeeping and Reporting:
Maintain accurate service records, daily maintenance checklists, and repair logs.
Report to Maintenance Manager about recurring issues, part shortages, or vehicle-specific challenges.
5. Spare Parts and Tools:
Coordinate with the store for timely requisition and replacement of spare parts.
Ensure proper usage and upkeep of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and special equipment.
6. Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all safety protocols are followed during maintenance work.
Adhere to CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules), OEM maintenance manuals, and depot-level SOPs.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
ITI/Diploma in Automobile Engineering or Diesel Mechanic trade.
Experience:
Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience working on Ashok Leyland buses, preferably in a public transport company or fleet maintenance depot.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in diesel engine repair (BS-IV/BS-VI).
Knowledge of electrical systems, battery management, and air suspension.
Understanding of vehicle health monitoring systems like i-ALERT.
Familiarity with tools like torque wrenches, diagnostic software, lifting jacks, etc.
Behavioral Skills:

Problem-solving and analytical mindset.
Good communication and reporting skills.
Working Conditions:
Rotational shifts including night shift and holidays.
Physically demanding tasks (lifting, kneeling, standing for long periods).
