Job Duties & Responsibilities
Design & Development:
Create and optimize 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for cast components and tooling.
Design gating, feeding, and venting systems for various casting processes (e.g., investment, die casting).
Conduct solidification and mold flow analyses using CAE software to predict and improve casting quality.
Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis to ensure the designed part can be economically produced.
Analysis & Testing:
Evaluate and analyze designs using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural integrity.
Conduct physical testing on prototypes and components to validate performance.
Perform failure analysis and root cause investigation for casting-related issues.
Collaboration & Support:
Work with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, and purchasing.
Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate their capabilities, review quotes, and support component development.
Participate in design reviews and support the new product introduction (NPI) process.
Documentation & Standards:
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including part specifications, design sheets, and manufacturing plans.
Ensure designs meet all applicable industry standards and regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX).
Experience with CAE software for simulation and analysis (FEA, mold flow).
Familiarity with various casting processes (die casting, investment casting) and materials.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Education:
Typically requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
