Receive, label and analyse samples (blood, toxic, tissue etc.)
Design and execute laboratory testing according to standard procedures, make observations and interpret findings
Conduct experiments under defined conditions to verify/reject various types of hypotheses using refined scientific methods
Organise and store all chemicals substances, fluids and compressed gases according to safety instructions
Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility
Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies
Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
Managing Optimal Department Operations by Ensuring the Following:
Monitoring reagent, calibrator and control inventory. To ensure that expired material is not in stock or in use.
Active participation in monthly QC review, internal audits & external audits.
Daily Tasks
Ensure work surfaces are cleaned daily with 1% Sodium Hypochlorite before and after completion of work.
Help in sample sorting instrument-wise or as per STAT request.
Monitor integrity of samples prior to processing.
Department QC review, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, CA, and PA with the help of HOD.
Follow up on STAT reporting of the department.
Print worksheets and follow to complete routine work.
Attach machine printouts of patient results with the corresponding worksheet.
Mention previous records of the patient on the worksheet, if any.
Decide on retesting of results and recollection of samples for retesting with the consent of HOD or other pathologists performing microscopy.
Perform manual processes in the department scope of tests.
Perform tests other than CBC.
Perform sample dilutions if required under supervision.
Prepare thick and thin smears.
Stain thick and thin smears.
Speak to patients regarding clinical history.
Conduct periodic checks on pending lists and complete pending tests.
Ensure TAT is met for all samples.
Retain samples properly as per SOP criteria.
Discard samples periodically as per policy and document the same.
Point out non-conformances or errors to the Sr. Lab Technician.
Log non-conformances in the Error Log document with the help of the Sr. Lab Technician or Lab Manager.
Immediately inform critical values to the Sr. Lab Technician and HOD.
Print monthly LJ’s and prepare outlier charts.
Perform retained sample testing and evaluation as per schedule.
Test IQC & EQC samples and document with the help of the QA department.
Communication & Teamwork:
Maintains a positive working relationship with the staff & management personnel.
Uses interpersonal skills to support lab customers & promote success of team member.
Should be flexible with shift timings if required in case of inadequate staff.
Documentation:
Ensure all documents and records are maintained & updated on real time basis (Refer to Annexure 1 attached).
Inventory:
Ensures adequate stock in department & proper utilisation of reagents & control material
Take a physical stock of the department utilities with the help of Sr. Lab Technician.
Safety & Education:
Complies with laboratory safety procedures.
Possess adequate knowledge of instrumentation, theory and application of existing tests.
Attends internal CME’s to enhance his/her knowledge.
Understanding thoroughly tests and instrument SOP’s and implementing the same.
