A Medical Representative (MR) is responsible for promoting and selling a company’s pharmaceutical products to healthcare professionals, including doctors, pharmacists, and hospitals. They serve as the key link between a company and medical professionals, ensuring that products are effectively presented, prescriptions are encouraged, and sales targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
Product Promotion & Sales
Promote and detail pharmaceutical products to doctors, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals.
Achieve sales targets by generating prescriptions and building product demand.
Organize product demonstrations and marketing activities to increase awareness.
Market Development
Identify new business opportunities in assigned territories.
Build strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare practitioners, and hospital staff.
Stay updated on competitors’ products, pricing, and strategies.
Territory Management
Plan and implement effective sales routes and coverage strategies.
Maintain regular visits to healthcare professionals and pharmacies.
Ensure availability and visibility of products in the market.
Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of sales calls, doctor interactions, and prescriptions generated.
Submit daily/weekly/monthly reports to management.
Provide feedback from the market regarding customer needs and competitor activities.
Training & Knowledge
Continuously update product knowledge, medical information, and sales techniques.
Participate in regular training sessions and conferences organized by the company.
Educate healthcare professionals about product usage, dosage, and benefits.
Customer Relationship Management
Develop long-term relationships with doctors, chemists, and healthcare providers.
Address customer queries, resolve issues, and ensure satisfaction.
Provide after-sales service and follow-ups as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or related field (preferred).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Good negotiation and persuasion abilities.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Strong presentation and analytical skills.
Willingness to travel extensively within assigned territory.
