IT Technician/Network Technician

Job Summary:

A Passive Networking Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the physical (passive) components of a network infrastructure. This includes structured cabling, network racks, fiber optics, patch panels, and other hardware that forms the foundation of a reliable IT network.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install and terminate copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber optic cables (single-mode/multi-mode).

• Mount and label network racks, faceplates, patch panels, and other passive components.

• Conduct cable routing, dressing, and labeling as per industry standards.

• Perform cable testing and certification using tools like Fluke testers.

• Coordinate with the IT team or project engineers to understand cabling requirements based on layout or network design.

• Conduct site surveys and prepare basic layout sketches for cable pathways and termination points.

• Troubleshoot connectivity issues related to physical cabling.

• Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards during installation and maintenance.

• Maintain documentation of network cable routes, labels, and installed devices.

• Work with conduit, trunking, and cable tray installation in industrial or commercial environments.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Basic understanding of networking concepts (LAN/WAN, switches, patch panels).

• Hands-on experience in structured cabling systems.

• Familiarity with fiber optic splicing, OTDR, and power meter usage (preferred).

• Ability to read and understand network layout drawings.

• Good coordination and communication skills for site work.

• Physically fit to handle lifting, ladder work, and extended hours at installation sites.
