Job Summary:
The Library Assistant supports the daily operations of the library by assisting patrons, maintaining collections, managing circulation processes, and ensuring a welcoming and organized environment. This role requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet and assist library patrons with locating materials and using library resources.
Perform circulation duties including checking materials in and out, renewing items, and handling holds and reservations.
Maintain the organization of library materials by shelving books, managing returns, and ensuring correct categorization.
Assist with cataloging, labeling, and processing new materials.
Support digital library functions, including database access and e-book troubleshooting.
Enforce library rules and help maintain a quiet, respectful environment.
Assist with library programs and events, including preparation, setup, and promotion.
Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, data entry, and record-keeping.
Help with inventory checks and maintenance of library equipment and supplies.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Basic computer literacy and ability to use office and library-specific software.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
