Job Description – Winder (MV Capacitor Manufacturing Division)
Location: Bhosari, Pune
Department: Production – Medium Voltage Capacitor Division
Industry: MV Power Capacitors / Electrical Equipment Manufacturing
1. Position Overview
The MV Capacitor Winder is responsible for winding APP (Aluminium Foil + Polypropylene Film) capacitor elements used in medium-voltage capacitor units (6.6 kV, 11 kV, 22 kV, 33 kV). The role requires high precision, adherence to process parameters, and strong quality focus to ensure reliability and long service life of MV capacitors.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Winding Operations
Operate MV capacitor winding machines (semi-automatic / fully automatic).
Wind capacitor elements using aluminium foil and polypropylene film as per technical drawings.
Maintain correct foil-film alignment, tension, and uniformity during winding.
Ensure correct foil extension, tab insertion, and interleaving as specified.
Avoid wrinkles, film tears, foil damage, and contamination during winding.
B. Element Preparation & Processing
Cut aluminium foil, PP film, and kraft paper to the required dimensions.
Perform edge trimming, burr removal, and foil profiling.
Wrap wound elements with insulation (PP/Kraft) after completion.
Check element diameter, height, and foil protrusion as per design.
Properly mark and identify each wound element with batch and ID details.
C. Quality Control & Inspection
Inspect wound elements for defects such as loose winding, wrinkles, misalignment, or film damage.
Measure dimensional accuracy using vernier, templates, and gauges.
Record rejection details and raise NCR (Non-Conformance Report) if required.
Follow QAP, SOP, and quality guidelines strictly during all operations.
D. Machine Handling & Maintenance
Adjust machine controls: tension settings, film guides, rollers, and alignment tools.
Clean and maintain winding machines daily to ensure contamination-free operation.
Perform basic maintenance and report breakdowns to the maintenance team immediately.
Maintain safe and disciplined operation of winding machines.
E. Coordination & Documentation
Maintain production logs: quantity wound, materials consumed, rejections, running hours.
Coordinate with QC, drying, and assembly teams for element movement.
Ensure proper FIFO system for foil and film materials.
Keep winding area clean, organized, and dust-free.
F. Safety & Process Compliance
Wear safety PPE (gloves, finger caps, anti-static gear, masks).
Follow all safety protocols while handling blades, foils, films, and rotating machinery.
Avoid contamination of dielectric film (no oil, moisture, dust exposure).
Maintain strict housekeeping and cleanliness standards.
3. Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of capacitor element winding processes (APP type).
Skilled in handling foil-film winding machines with tension control.
Ability to identify winding defects and maintain accuracy.
Knowledge of dielectric materials: PP film, kraft paper, aluminium foil.
Good mechanical ability and attention to fine details.
4. Qualifications & Experience
ITI (Fitter / Electrician / Mechanical) or Skilled Machine Operator.
1–3 years experience in MV/LV capacitor winding operations.
Experience in APP element winding for MV capacitors is strongly preferred.
Experience in transformer/reactor coil winding is an advantage.
