Job Title: Junior Chemist

About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented “Entry-Level Chemist” to join our team in the Platinum Group Metals (PGM) refining industry. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and possess a strong foundation in analytical techniques and chemical processes. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment focused on the extraction and purification of precious metals.
Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Analysis: Conduct routine chemical analyses of raw materials and refined products using techniques such as ICP-MS, AAS, and XRF to determine metal content and purity levels.
2. Sample Preparation: Prepare samples for analysis, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and laboratory best practices.
3. Data Recording:Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and observations in compliance with quality assurance standards.
4. Process Support: Assist senior chemists and engineers in optimizing refining processes, including hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical methods.
5. Quality Control: Participate in quality control activities, including monitoring process parameters and conducting tests to ensure product specifications are met.
6. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
7. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects and contribute to process improvements.
Candidate Requirements:
l Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
l Experience : 0 to 3 years
l Technical Skills: Familiarity with laboratory techniques and equipment, including spectroscopy and chromatography. Basic knowledge of PGM metallurgy is a plus.
l Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in conducting experiments and analyzing data.
l Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to document findings and collaborate with team members.
l Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes in the PGM refining industry.
l Preferred Qualifications
l Internship or co-op experience in a laboratory setting, particularly in metal refining, mining, or analytical chemistry, is advantageous but not required.
l Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards related to chemical handling and waste management.
