Barista-Chef (Café / Coffee House) – Sector 20, Gurugram

Purpose of the Role
To manage and execute the preparation of both café-style beverages (espresso, brewed coffee, cold drinks) and a selected hot food menu; to maintain high standards of guest experience and food/beverage quality; to assist in daily operations of the café (including stock-control, hygiene, equipment maintenance) and to help build loyal clientele.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation & Quality
Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, brewed coffee, cold beverages, teas, and other specialty drinks to brand standards.
Maintain consistency in taste, appearance and presentation of beverages.
Monitor equipment (espresso machines, grinders, blenders, cold brewers) to ensure optimal functioning and alert management of any issues.
Stay updated on new drink trends/menu items and proactively recommend to manager.
Food Preparation & Assistance
Prepare a selection of hot or cold food items (sandwiches, quiches, desserts, pastries) according to café menu and SOPs.
Ensure correct portioning, presentation and plating (if applicable).
Support kitchen/hotch area in maintaining cleanliness, stock rotation, expiry checks.
Guest Service & Upselling
Greet guests warmly, interact with them to understand preferences, suggest complementary items (e.g., a pastry with a coffee).
Handle orders efficiently via POS/digital payment, manage cash if required.
Address basic guest feedback or complaints on the spot and report to manager.
Work proactively to drive additional sales (e.g., recommending seasonal items, merchandise, whole-bean packs).
Store Operations & Hygiene
Ensure the café environment (counters, seating area, equipment, restrooms) is clean, organised and meets health & safety standards.
Perform cleaning, restocking (cups, beans, syrups, napkins, condiments) according to schedule.
Manage inventory: assist with daily/weekly stock counts, expiry checks, wastage control.
Ensure compliance with food safety standards (Hygiene, Temperature control, Cross-contamination prevention).Assist opening/closing procedures, shift hand-over, cash reconciliation (if involved).
Teamwork & Training
Mentor/train junior baristas/crew in beverage recipes, machine usage, guest service standards.
Work as part of a team, communicate issues/ideas to manager for process improvement.
Flexibility to work shifts (morning, day, possibly late evening) and weekends/holidays as per café’s schedule.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 6–1 years’ experience as a barista or in café/beverage service (preferably with some food preparation experience).
Good working knowledge of coffee machines, grinders, brew methods, cold-beverages, and food-prep areas.
Excellent guest-service skills – friendly, approachable, able to build relationships with repeat customers.
Good communication skills (English & Hindi) to interact with diverse clientele.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, handle pressure during peak hours.
Basic arithmetic for handling POS/cash, inventory counts.
Attention to detail (presentation, cleanliness, quality).
Willing to stand for long periods, lift/move items (stock, trays) as required.
A sense of pride in delivering high standards and upholding brand image.
Preferred (but not mandatory)
Certification or training in coffee/barista skills or food safety/hygiene.
Prior experience with up-selling or retail café merchandise/whole‐bean packs.
Knowledge of latte art and advanced brew techniques (for premium cafés).
Familiarity with digital POS systems and café inventory software.
